Show Notes:

In the first episode in a three-part mini series on Social Emotional Learning, I interviewed Krista Leh (@krista_leh), an educator, former administrator, adjunct professor, and educational consultant specializing in SEL. We discussed what SEL is and how to incorporate it in schools and with students.

About Krista Leh

The first ten years of my career were spent enthusiastically working with high school students in a social studies classroom. For the next five years, I served as a Curriculum and Instructional Technology Coach supporting K-12 teachers across the district in Rigorous Curriculum Design.

While with the district, I co-developed a student leadership organization based on peer mentorship and the power of connection and support within peer groups. This started my foray into focusing on the cognitive and affective benefits of social emotional learning.

In 2012, I was selected as one of twenty-six members nation-wide for the ASCD Emerging Leader class. In 2014, I became an ASCD Professional Services Faculty Member and in 2015, I was invited to join the inaugural class of ASCD Influence Leaders to delve into the realm of disseminating information on education policy. I currently work nation-wide with school leaders, staff, and students on social emotional learning as well as diversity, equity, and access.

In addition to consulting, I am also an adjunct professor in a Master’s of Education program that emphasizes social emotional learning. I have designed five and currently facilitate three of the courses within this program. This opportunity truly encompasses what is essential and valuable for effective professional learning: respect, collaboration, continual growth, voice and choice, and authentic educational practices that can be implemented immediately into the classroom or school building.

As a life-long learner, I enthusiastically take advantage of opportunities to grow and develop mastery of concepts and skills. I graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Secondary Social Studies Education and earned a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Kutztown University. I expect to earn a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University in 2019.
